The other part: The New York open strategy (part 1)
What the video says
Part two. Yesterday you saw how it works. Does the New York open strategy make money? We tested it on 2.7 years of Nasdaq data, fees included. Here is the answer.
Quick reminder of the rule. Wait for the New York open. If the first candle closes above the 12 EMA, buy. Below it, sell. Then the stop follows the trend.
We traded the rule exactly as it is sold. Here is every trade: 348 trades, 43% winners. Each square is one trade: green won, red lost.
R is what you risk on one trade: minus 1 R means you lost your stake once. Add them all up and you get this: minus 38 R.
Maybe other settings do better? We tried 28 versions: different stops, holding times and trailing rules. Only one ended positive. Remove its five best trades, and it loses too.
The answer. 96% of the versions we tested lost money.
No edge. Traded the way it is sold, it lost 38 R after costs.
